It all started with “What do you think about going to Great Britain?”. My response was “Huh”. My wife and step daughter tried to get tickets to Gracie Abrams here in Boston. No luck. So being a resourceful person that she is my wife found tickets in Cardiff Wales.
This started a wild, crazy, fun, and probably my favorite vacation ever.
March in Great Britain seemed like a perfect getaway. And it was.
We arrived early in the morning, scuttled through customs rather quickly, jumped an express train to paddington and then we waited. Paddington station, amazing. All the cool food and drink options kept us entertained.
Onward on a train to Cardiff. We succumbed to sleep only because we didn’t sleep on our red eye flight. Too excited and the adrenaline pumping through our veins.
We loved the countryside.
Our first day in Cardiff was amazing, the castle, friends from the US, and relatively decent food.
Then the concert which was amazing, except for the standing room only. My old legs never want to stand for 6 to 8 hours after a day we walked like 5 miles. Gracie was amazing. I wasn’t a fan of the opening act but the main concert was unreal.

After Wales we headed to London. Our hotel was quaint and very British. We did hit a lot tourist spots and ate ok meals. I’m very picky and struggled with some of the food. Really only one meal stood out to be absolutely horrible. Happy’s.
We were tourists and enjoyed our visits at Kensington Palace, London Zoo, Tower of London and also downtown London where I could no longer stand being without a wind breaking jacket and ended up buying one. This on top of buying two new winter hats. I did not come prepared.

We visited the Black Dog where Taylor Swift hung out and explored London and surprisingly the grocery stores were fascinating. We spent a few nights just wandering around buying well…junk.
All in all it was amazing. We didn’t see everything but we got to see Phantom of the Opera and on our last day just two blocks from our hotel was Freddy Mercury’s house. So we saw and photographed that.
With all the people and only taking the subway and trains I never was stressed or anxious. The only rude people we came upon were actually foreigners.
If I could, in a heartbeat, I would move to London. It is one of my most favorite places I’ve been and this trip I saw it with two of my favorites woman. Only other woman I would have liked to have been there was my dear daughter but her spring break did not align. Maybe next time.
Until we meet again. London calling.
