Every year at least once we go to the zoo. It is an opportunity to take photos. I look back year over year and I get a lot of the same type of shots. It is fun going with my wife or my daughter as they also take lots of photos so we can compare our shots.
One of my favorite animals at this zoo. Almost always get a great photo of this beautiful bird.
The hyacinth macaw, or hyacinthine macaw, is a parrot native to central and eastern South America. With a length of about 100 cm it is longer than any other species of parrot. It is the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species, though the flightless kakapo of New Zealand can outweigh it at up to 3.5 kg.
I love prairie dogs. I think my love of these animals comes from when I lived in Tucson and I saw them out in the wild.
Prairie dogs are herbivorous burrowing rodents native to the grasslands of North America. The five species are: black-tailed, white-tailed, Gunnison’s, Utah, and Mexican prairie dogs. They are a type of ground squirrel, found in the United States, Canadian Prairies and Mexico.
Tigers. These tigers at the Southwicks Zoo are so very interesting. Every year we see them they pace in almost the exact same places. This year the white tiger was not pacing which is a first in the past 3-4 years. He/She was just lying in the shade. The other tiger was all over the place. Only the second time I’ve seen this tiger so so active.
